Charming the Goddess, holiday card

Charming the Goddess, holiday card

This is the un-cropped version of my holiday card for this year. Since the Winter Solstice is a celebratory season for so many cultures and religions, I cover a different one each year with my annual greeting to friends and family (I've covered 10 so far). If you would like to get a copy of this in your post box, e-mail me your snail mail address, and I'll send you a nice printed piece for the holidays.

9"X12" Arches 140 lb. coldpress, Rembrant watercolors, Ball point pen (Bic stic)

Charming the Goddess

Can you tame the goddess
That makes love with the night,
And holds the mystic secrets
Of what is wrong and right?

Can you sing the gentle words
Filled with ancient rhyme,
Stilling her dark temper
To shift the sands of time?

Come and play a magic tune,
Strike a cord of chance,
Weave the words of wisdom,
And make the winged one dance.

Chameleon

Chameleon, originally uploaded by Llyn Hunter, Bobcat Publishing.

This is a piece I did for a quick watercolor demonstration a few years back. It took about 3 hours from start to finish and I used three different photos for reference. Note the cool effect at the top is done with Schminke Aero Colors and salt. You apply the salt while the paper is still damp with the paint but not quite dry. Use a blow dryer to speed up the drying, and then brush the salt off (I use a dull edged knife).

9" x 12" Arches hot press, Winsor & Newton water colors, Schminke Aero Colors, Berol 2B pencil, Staedtler pigment liners, salt, (razor/exacto knife blades and laytex erasers to demonstrate how to fix mistakes).

Click on the link to connect to the animated
e-card. I do the cards regularly to keep my skills fress in Flash. I would be pleased if you looked at the card and pass the link on to your friends and family.

At the end of the card each Valentine you click on bursts open with a surprise message. Note that questionable harmonica music is both my own playing and composition. Enjoy!

Old Air Dragon

This is a portion from part of a poster I did for the Legend of the Five Rings a few years back for AEG. I’m not sure if the poster was ever made, because I never got a copy, but they used all of the dragons for cards.

Belt of the Bear

This is a card from the latest WARLORD CCG expansion set, "Shattered Empires."

When I get a Card like this, this exact description I get:

4E-0244
Belt of the Bear
Fighter Item. Armor. Belt.
We see a heavily muscled mid-third of a bare-chested Nothrog fighter. Around his waist is a broad belt, somewhat similar to current day boxing or wrestling champion belts (if a bit more practical to wear). The Metal plate over the belly shows a bear design.

The above illustration was executed in Chromacolour liquid Vinyl Chromacolour International and Sakura .005 Pigma Micron pen on 140lb Arches watercolor paper. 9"x7'

Belt of the Bear - Rough

This is a card from the latest WARLORD CCG expansion set, "Shattered Empires."

We see a heavily muscled mid-third of a bare-chested Nothrog fighter. Around his waist is a broad belt, somewhat similar to current day boxing or wrestling champion belts (if a bit more practical to wear). The Metal plate over the belly shows a bear design.

As a beginning sketch, I enhanced the belt area of a nothrog character I had done a few years ago, and then modified the buckle. I usually do a quick sketch on 8.5"x 11" Hammermill color xerox paper (I like drawing on it's ultra smooth surface) then do the detailed under drawing directly on 140 lb Arches watercolor paper using a light box.

Contained-IF

Contained

Fit it in a bottle,
Put it in a box,
Keep it with a turtle,
Stuff it in your socks,
Wrap your arms aruound it,
Stick it down the drain,
I don't care what you do with it,
As long as it's contained.

Native Mage

This is a card from the latest WARLORD CCG expansion set, "Shattered Empires."

The elves in this game are EVIL and use bone and things that are dead for armor. I was going to have a blast with this one, because I love working with skeletons, and absolutely love fish. Warlord is also a commission where I get to "play the villain", and I do so love to act.

The above illustration was executed in Chromacolour liquid Vinyl Chromacolour International and Sakura .005 Pigma Micron pen on 140lb Arches watercolor paper. 9"x7"

Native Mage

This is a card from the latest WARLORD CCG expansion set, "Shattered Empires."

When I get a Card like this this exact description I get:

4E-0137
Native Mage
Elf. Female. Wizard.
We see a female Elf wizard on a coast. Other than the traditional elves, this one looks like she came out of the water, with her „clothes“ being adorned with shells and other maritime accessories. The ridges and bones theme remains, but the bones are now from whale and other ... things from the deep.

I as a beginning sketch I usually do a quick sketch on 8.5"x 11" Hammermill color xerox paper (I like drawing on it's ultra smooth surface) then do the detailed under drawing directly on 140 lb Arches watercolor paper. I added the waves in the background as a Photoshop enhancement to give the art director an idea of what I was planning to do with the background.

A Little Book of Magical Beings

This is the cover to my Little Book of Magical Beings. It is a miniature encyclopedia of magical humanoids from across the world and time. In this next year I will be posting pages and individual illustrations from this book, A Little Book of Monsters and the book I am currently working on, A Little Book of Sea Monsters. If you get some pocket change buy a few from me or let your friends who like mythology know about it. You will be donating to the "Keep Llyn Publishing Fund" and getting really cool books in exchange.

Just as an added note, the designing, writing, and illustration are all mine, and the first 1000 are signed and numbered.
